COLOUR HINTS

If you feel wary about working with colour here are a few hints.

Explore what you like, it is no pleasure to work with someone else’s choice if you hate it.

Play with colours. Before knitting the colourjacket which my sister is wearing I spent a long time
playing with the balls of wool I had dyed. I arranged them in different ways - dark and light,
neutrals and bright colours, greens/ yellows and browns/ oranges.

Don’t underestimate neutrals - greys, browns can serve as effective contrasts to brighter colours.

Make parallels with another field of interest. Think of colours as flavours in a meal,
hot and spicy reds and oranges, cool and refreshing lime green and turquoise. Plan your colour
scheme like a menu. Or notes in music with major and minor, bass and soprano notes with which
you compose your symphony or rock music.
